PREselling Vs. Selling
As an affiliate it is not your job to sell. The only job you have is to PREsell. Once you've done your job correctly and "get the click" then it's the Lorrie's job to close the deal. Think about it for a moment, who could possibly know more about the product? You or the creator? Besides that, picture this…
A visitor arrives at your affiliate link searching for information on your particular topic/product. When they arrive they find nothing but a huge sales letter. Now, put yourself in your visitor’s shoes for a moment. (Which by the way is Always an excellent way to look at your content!)
They’re not finding information on why they should want this product or what this product can do for them… They see nothing but a sales pitch.
In the first place this very well may loose you your visitor in a hurry BUT…
Let’s say you do get the click and they arrive at the merchants site. Now what do they see? More sales pitches or quite possibly the exact same thing you have on your site. Ooops! Overkill … there went that sale :(
Instead, warm up your visitor for your merchants by PREselling them with great content that they value and respect. Move on down to the next strategy and there you'll find your warming up content!
Article Marketing
This technique always makes everyone want to run and hide when they see it. It's not really as hard as you think. Writing articles with worthwhile informational content is an excellent strategy for successful affiliate marketing. Make sure that your article contains useful information that targets your audience and doesn't sound like a sales copy or ad. The following tips will help you create eye catching articles that pull results.
---> Solve a problem with your article.
In this case, for the ebooks, audios and books you are promoting inspirational materials to help customers be a better Mother, Wife and Person. For TEACH Magazine, you'll want to write content that Christian homemakers homeschoolers will be interested in reading. This could be as simple as: 5 Tips to Make Every Moment Count for Homeschoolers
---> Writing articles also has many more added benefits!
One good thing about article writing is that it establishes you as the expert in this particular field and therefore increases your odds of "getting the click" of your affiliate link from your readers ... and hopefully ... even better ... purchasing through your recommendated affiliate link.
---> Spread the word.
Always make your articles available for free reprint! Be sure to include a small bio at the end of the article. Include your affiliate link in the bio and make it a condition for free publication that the article appears with your bio. A bio is a short paragraph about you, your business (if applicable) and of course, your affiliate link.
Example Bio:
Susan Remph is a busy home schooling mom always on the search of resources to help her make the most of her homeschooling efforts. Often reviewing her chest of saved back issues of her favorite magazine - TEACH Magazine, she highly recommends this magazine for all Christian Homeschooling Moms. Not only has some of her very best tips come this magazine but it also includes spiratual food just for mom plus so much more. Grab your subscription today at YOURAFFILIATE LINK HERE. You deserve it mom.
---> Keep Spreading the word.
There are literally tons of people out there searching for free content every single day. It's a win-win situation and viral networking at its very best! They get the content and you get the free exposure. How do you find these people? Easy, they kind of find you. Simply perform a search at your favorite search engine using some of these keywords:
"free places to submit articles"
"article submissions"
"free articles for reprint"
"submit articles"
... and whatever else you may come up with. Make sure you use the quotes around the keywords just like they're shown above. You could even perform a search using your target audience as well. For example: "article submissions" + "homeschooling". Sometimes this doesn't always work because you may be limiting yourself somewhat. Play around with a few different combinations until you come up with the best list for you.
Oh and by the way, I said "they kind of find you". These directories are exactly where they go for their content and will find you. Make sure you are there to find ;-)
---> Grab their attention
Grab your potential reader's attention with eye catching titles. What you name your article very well could make or break it. The very first thing your reader sees is the title. If you don't grab their attention and make them want to read, your article doesn't get seen. Use your title to state the problem you're going to solve. Using our example article: 5 Tips to Make Every Moment Count for Homeschoolers
Most homeschooling moms are very busy and are ususually looking for ways to make every life moment into a learning experience. With this article, we're going to teach them how to do just that. With this title, we're stating the problem - time and how to make the most of it.
---> Let me guess - you can't write?
Well, first of all just let me say: Yes, you can! That used to be my biggest cop-out. Now I enjoy writing more than I ever did. You’d be surprised at what you can do. You probably already write every day. Now you just have to put everything in a clear consice order. Remember those "quick tip articles" I mentioned above. Start with one of those. Who would have known that the easiest articles to write are the more popular ones to read. Besides, you'll never know if you never try.
-
*Hint* Quick, to the point "tips" that help your readers solve a problem are usually the most read and most sought after types of articles. Everyone is busy these days. Give them what they need quickly and precisely. So no worries about having to write long, drawn out articles stuffed full of fluff - they aren't usually read anyway.
Once again, using our example article: 5 Tips to Make Every Moment Count for Homeschoolers This is a perfect title and example of a "tip article". In fact, if you scroll back up to the top of this very section on article marketing and look down through, you will see a fairly good example of a "tip article". Although even this is starting to get a wee bit on the long side, I could easily take this very section, pull it from this training page and use it as an article all by itself.
I recommend that you make your tip article roughly 4 - 6 tips long. If it must be more than 6 - make sure it is a maximum of 10. Start each part with the actual tip about one sentence or just a few words and follow with a short paragraph in more detail. If your article includes more than 6 tips, be sure to keep each of your following detail paragrahs fairly short.
Notice how this section is broken down and it's much simpler to grasp each concept quickly - and more importantly - easy on the eyes making it easier to read. This is what your readers want in an article. Who would have thought the easiest article to write is the most popular to read?
Things You Should NOT Do
With this section we're going to switch gears a bit and I'm going to share a few things that you shouldn't be doing. A few things that I've learned from experience over the years that simply don't work. Learn from my mistakes.
Do you have any idea how many times I’ve heard someone say …
Eeek! I try my hardest to help anyone as much as I can and even sugar coat some things if I feel the need. I don’t want to be the person who shoots someone down for their attempts. At least they’re trying. When reviewing someone’s site I always try to pick out the good features too. But, when I go to a site that is nothing but a bunch of banner and button ads … what good can I possibly say?
---> Do not use only banner ads
One of the Biggest mistakes I’ve seen so many times is when a ‘newbie affiliate marketer’ comes along and thinks that all you need to do is throw up some banners or button graphics and they’re done. Wrong! As a matter of fact I highly recommend using a few strategically placed, well positioned banner and button ads.
I'm only talking about banner and button ADS. If you have a page that lists a bunch of products that you are promoting, then I recommend using pictures of the products with the descriptions. This visual will actually help increase your sales.
Remember, I was a ‘newbie’ at one time too. I’m not going to tell you I didn’t use them because I’d be lying. I’m just trying to help you save time and energy on the things that don’t work. Instead of taking the time to place a banner ad; work on one more page of content or one more paragraph in your newest article.
Studies have shown that banner advertising spread out willy nilly throughout the site or home page are not the best strategy and that visitors actually avoid them. This has actually turned me away from some affiliate programs. If I’m researching a program and find that they have nothing more for me to use for promotion than banner ads; I usually don’t even bother with that program.
If you absolutely must use them make sure they're used sparingly and well placed. Do not place a banner on the same page as your article. Placing a banner on the same page as your article can very quickly turn your well-written article into nothing but a huge ad.
---> Use “Preformed Ads” sparingly
My definition of a “Preformed Ad” are the ads given to you from the merchant. In this case, I'm referring to pre-made text ads such as classfied ads, solo ads, etc. The reason I avoid using these “preformed ads’ is because chances are there are a hundred other affiliates out there using the exact same ads you are. Be Unique! Write your own ads, articles, etc.
---> Text Links
Okay, so I’ll throw in one tip you should do … for a good ending.
Use ‘in content’ text links. What are ‘in content’ text links, you ask? In Content Text Links are links that are part of the content of the Web page. In other words, surrounded by useful information about the product/service. Ahhh, possibly in that article you’re writing. ;) If you do this, be sure to use just one - no more than two.
Know Your Products
The easiest way to PREsell a product is through a personal recommendation or review. If you think about it, you've been PREselling products for many years now. You just weren't getting paid for it. A properly run affiliate business is just that - referring or recommending products and/or services to others.
Who are you going to buy from more quickly? A random ad from a complete stranger or a recommendation from a trusted person? And common sense will tell you that the more familiar you are with a product you're recommending, the simpler it will be to PREsell it.
If you know everything there is to know about the product you're recommending, the easier it will be to tell others about it. Of course the best way to accomplish is to own the product yourself. So therefore, if it's in your budget, you should buy it before you PREsell it.
This is exactly why we supply you with a sample issue of TEACH magazine. By reviewing the magazine, you're can share your true thoughts with your potential customers.
With all this said, we're also aware that sometimes it's just not possible to buy every single product you are recommending - especially when you're just starting out.
Never mislead your potential customers!
This is a very important thought to keep in mind. As an affiliate manager, you should be focusing on building trusting relationships with your potential customers. For example: Do not say that you've read a particular ebook if you have not. There are other ways of recommending a product - even if you've only ever purchased one yourself OR even if you're say for example, simply a subscriber to Lorrie's free weekly newsletter.
What you need to do is at least be familiar with the owner - for this program - you need to be familiar with what Lorrie Flem, TEACHmagazine.com, and TEACHersBookShoppe.com.

It's obvious she pours her heart and soul into every single issue. Her encouragement seems to jump right off the page and has been such a tremendous help as I grow to be a better mom while getting in touch with my inner spirituality at the same time. I would highly recommend anything coming from the mind of Lorrie Flem. Visit YOUR AFFILIATE LINK HERE to see what she has to offer you.
Take note to the fact that I've made it clear that I'm simply a subscriber to Lorrie's newsletter. I'm actually hitting a home run here. I'm describing what kind of work Lorrie creates. I'm explaining how I feel about what she has to say. I'm explaining how she has helped me. And lastly but by no means least, I'm letting my readers know that Lorrie also publishes a free weekly newsletter - for those who aren't quite ready to jump right in and buy. When my reader's use my link to sign up to the free weekly newsletter, my affiliate link has been cookied to her computer. So, if she buys later - I'll still earn a commission!
Here is an example of something I may say to a potential customer if I'm recommending a product other than one I own:
I just finished looking through Lorrie Flem's Sanity Saving Breakfast Ideas (Vol. 1) and boy oh boy do I wish I had noticed I could buy the Sanity Saving Breakfast Bundle before I bought! I have breakfast planned for all next week - just from Volume 1! The best part is that for a lot of them, I can prepare them the night before saving me a ton of time during our usual busy morning rush. Woo Hoo! I can't wait to purchase the whole bundle. Lorrie also offers an ebook called Fill 'em Up - ideas on how to fill a bottomless pit - proven by a mother of eight. I'm thoroughly satisfied with the breakfast ebook and highly recommend any recipe coming from Lorrie Flem.
Do remember though, as you start making more sales, do consider re-investing into your affiliate business and try out more products for yourself. Besides - it's a business expense afterall ;-)
More coming soon ...
